Our Commitment to Privacy
At SideSwipe Labs, privacy is our foundation, not a bolt-on feature. We build every product with the principle that your personal data belongs to you and only you. This Privacy Policy explains how our applications handle information and why we believe local-first architecture is the future of responsible software.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
Unlike most software companies, we want to be clear about what we do not do:
- Our apps do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number to work. The only exceptions are ones you choose: an email address you type into an optional waitlist, or an email you send us.
- We do not use advertising SDKs, attribution trackers, social media pixels, or any data collection that identifies you personally. Some of our apps offer anonymous product analytics that stay off until you turn them on. See each app's privacy page for specifics.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. When you turn on an optional feature that needs an outside service, such as analytics, sticker search, or a waitlist, that service handles only the data that feature needs, for us. Each app's privacy page names them, and we require each to protect the data as well as this policy does. We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.
- We do not build profiles of you. Analytics events carry no name or account, and a waitlist email address is used only for the emails you asked for.
2. Local-First Architecture
All SideSwipe Labs applications are built on a local-first architecture. This means:
- On-Device Storage: What our apps create (health records, fitness data, photo albums, preferences) is stored on your device, in the app's own storage, unless you choose to sync or share it through iCloud.
- On-Device Processing: Analysis, layouts, and other processing run on your device. Our apps never send your data to a SideSwipe Labs server for processing. Optional features that use the network, such as opt-in analytics or sticker search, are listed on each app's privacy page.
- Optional iCloud Sync: Some apps offer optional iCloud sync for multi-device convenience. When enabled, this uses Apple's CloudKit infrastructure, and the data remains within your personal iCloud account, and SideSwipe Labs has no access to it.
3. App-Specific Information
Fia
Fia keeps what you log on your iPhone. There is no account and no analytics, and Fia’s own code makes no network requests. Apple Health stays off until you connect it, and iCloud sync stays off until you turn it on. Partner sharing, off until you turn it on, sends only a summary you choose to the people you invite, from your iCloud to theirs, never through SideSwipe Labs.
See the Fia Privacy Policy and the Fia Terms of Use.
Pressbook
Pressbook is a privacy-first photo album app. Every photo you select stays on your device, analyzed by Apple's Vision framework locally, laid out into albums locally, exported as PDFs locally. No photo, album, or .pressbook file is uploaded to us. When you share an album or use Circles, copies travel through your iCloud to the people you invite.
Analytics in Pressbook is off until you turn it on. When it is on, anonymous product events (for example, project_created, paywall_shown) go to PostHog, hosted in the EU, with a random ID that changes every time the app launches. There is no profile, no install ID, and no device model. Turn it off in Settings → Privacy & Data → Analytics.
See the Pressbook Privacy Policy for full details, including data retention and deletion procedures, and the Pressbook Terms.
Graycard
Graycard is a Mac app for culling and color-grading photos. It reads your files in place, and culling, face checks, grading, and export all run on your Mac. Photos are not uploaded. Analytics is off until Settings › Privacy. When you turn it on, anonymized events and an anonymous install ID go to PostHog in the EU. There is no account, and the data is not used to track you across other companies’ apps.
See the Graycard Privacy Policy for what it stores on your Mac and how to clear it, and the Graycard Terms of Use.
4. Apple App Store
When you download our applications from the Apple App Store, Apple may collect certain information in accordance with their own privacy policy. This collection is governed by Apple and is outside our control. We encourage you to review Apple's Privacy Policy for details on their data practices.
5. Biometric Data
Some of our applications offer biometric authentication (Face ID or Touch ID) as an additional security layer. Biometric data is processed entirely by Apple's Secure Enclave and is never accessible to our applications. We only receive a success or failure response from the authentication attempt.
6. Children's Privacy
Our applications are not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Our apps do not ask anyone for personal information to work, so this policy applies equally to all age groups. If you believe a child gave us an email address, write to privacy@sideswipelabs.com and we will delete it.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
What our apps create is stored on your device or in your own iCloud, so you control it at all times. You can delete it by:
- Using the in-app data management features to clear specific records.
- Deleting the application from your device, which removes all associated data.
- Managing iCloud data through your Apple ID settings if you opted into sync.
- Stopping a share or ending a circle in the app, which removes it from your iCloud and from the people you invited.
Analytics events, in apps that offer analytics and only if you turned it on, carry no name or account. Each app's privacy page says what they hold and how long they are kept.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. Our apps have no accounts, so we cannot notify you directly of changes, and we encourage you to review this policy periodically.
